These services are only for those individuals with fee disputes with
their prior family law attorney. We assist you with County Bar
Arbitration by giving you advice on ways to challenge unfair fees
charged to you by your former attorney. We prepare fee audits and
represent you before the County Arbitration Attorney. We do not
represent you in civil court or in legal malpractice actions against
your former counsel, but can give you direction on this issue or refer
you to a legal malpractice attorney.
Requirements to Retain:
You pay a retainer to cover the cost of the time needed to resolve your matter with your prior attorney. Retainers vary.
Advantages:
Empowers you to dispute unfair legal fees or billing practices from your former lawyer and can save you from having property seized to pay for former legal services.
Disadvantages:
If the amount of the disputed fees is less than the amount of fees needed to challenge the dispute, it ill not be cost effective to pursue.
